The third day of the three-day Lalbaugcha Raja auction ended on a lucrative note when a devotee purchased a 1,162-kg golden foot for Rs 34,21,000, with a starting bid of Rs 34 lakh set by the mandal.

Hundreds of devotees gathered at the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal to purchase offerings received during Ganeshotsav this year. According to official figures, the mandal collected Rs 24 lakh on Day I and Rs 14 lakh on Day II of the auction.

Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal committee member Ashok Pawar said, "Last year, the auction generated Rs 97 lakh. Every year, we collect the largest amount on the last day of the auction. This year has been no different. We have collected the highest amount on Day III which was over Rs 76 lakh. The overall collection spanning all three days was more than one crore as compared to Rs 97 lakh last year."

Pawar further said, "Every year, we see new kinds of offerings. This is the first time gold feet were offered. A few years ago, one kg gold football was offered by a devotee."

On Wednesday, offerings were auctioned for lakhs of rupees. A devotee from Girgaum, who has been a regular at the auction for the past decade, bought a silver necklace. Speaking about the experience, Sanjay Vedak (60), who purchased the silver necklace for Rs one lakh (at a starting bid of Rs 25,000) said, "Every year, I make it a point to purchase an item. This year, I saw the necklace on Raja's neck and thought of purchasing it without thinking about the cost involved. Having the necklace with me will ensure I take home Raja's blessings, on my family members and me. I bought it for one lakh rupees."

On Day I, the highest offering was sold for Rs three lakh, while on Day II, the highest offering was sold for Rs 1.61 lakh.
