BMC's catchment areas continued to receive adequate rainfall on Thursday, with lake levels going up by 31 days' stock. BMC supplies 3,750 million litres of water daily to city in normal conditions.

During the 24-hour period beginning at 6am on Wednesday, the civic body's seven reservoirs received 91.47mm of rain, adding 1,16,990 million litres of useful content across lakes, where stock soared up to 8,03,231 million litres. The dams have 214 days' useful content available.

"After the dry spell in the catchment region, we are happy to see the sudden rise in lake levels. But it will be great if the lake levels continue to increase over the next two months, ie until September-end. It is important we have adequate stock as on October 1 to avoid water cuts during the rest of the year," an official from the hydraulic engineer's department said.

As reported in dna earlier, BMC had implemented a 20% cut in the time duration residents get supply. The cut was brought down on Wednesday to 10%. In addition to this, BMC has been executing 50-100% cut in supply made to commercial establishments and recreational facilities.
