The plush La Mer residential tower in Bandra West, where a fire broke out on the 10th floor on Tuesday, has been served notice by Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFP) to install a proper firefighting system in the building within 20 days. The building was issued the notice on Tuesday night under Maharashtra Fire Prevention Act as it was found that the firefighting systems in the building were not in working condition at the time of the fire.

On Tuesday afternoon, a duplex flat on the 10th and 11th floor of the La Mer building in Bandra West owned by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was gutted in the fire. It took the firemen over an hour to douse the fire. A notice was served and standing instructions were given by the MFB Chief Fire Officer to disconnect the electricity and water connection to the building.

When contacted, Tata Power which supplies electricity to the building, said, “Power supply to the building was disconnected as a precautionary measure and was restored on Tuesday to all except 10th & 11th floor.”
