Kurla closely followed by Andheri have emerged as the unhealthiest parts of the city as they top the charts in reporting the maximum incidences of infectious diseases. As far as non-infectious disease scourge of diabetes is concerned, Kandivli has reported the maximum cases.
Kurla is the worse off as far as the scourge of TB. Of the 24 wards, L ward in Kurla, recorded the highest number of TB cases, 1,037, in 2013-14, said a RTI report.
Bhandup and Andheri are also the hotspots of TB as they recorded 675 and 616 cases respectively.
Kurla is also infamous for the most cases of diarrhea. Last year, L Ward (Kurla) recorded as many as 9,361 cases of diarrhoea. K East (Andheri E) yet again emerged an unhealthy ward with second most incidences of diarrhoea standing at 7,169 cases. N Ward (Ghatkopar) follows closely on its heels with 7,079 cases.
The western suburb of Kandivli has emerged as the diabetes capital of Mumbai. R South ward or Kandivli has recorded 5,390 cases of diabetes in 2013-14. K East ward (Andheri E) and K West ward (Andheri W) have recorded 1,972 and 1,760 cases respectively. "Kandivili is the worse off as far as diabetes is concerned. Kandivili has as many as three times more cases than in Andheri," said Milind Mhaske, project director at Praja Foundation.
The sting of malaria is the highest in Parel. F South ward (Parel) reported 586 cases followed by L ward (Ghatkopar) that reported 386 cases of Malaria and K East ward (Andheri E) that reported 381 cases in 2013-14.
Dengue is highly prominent in Andheri and areas of South Mumbai. Yet again K East ward of Andheri recorded highest cases at 29, followed by B ward of South Mumbai at 27 followed by R South ward of Kandivili that recorded 24 cases.
