"The way our daughter was brutally raped and killed is something that should not happen to anyone," said 45-year-old Babasaheb Sudrik, uncle of the Kopardi rape and murder victim.

Sudrik said the family was not completely happy with the Ahmednagar district sessions court's decision of declaring guilty all three accused in the case. "We will be fully satisfied when all culprits are given capital punishment," he said. They are anxiously waiting for the sentence to be meted out by the court on November 21.

"We have all gone through a traumatic experience in last 15 months. We are grateful to everyone who supported and stood by us in this troublesome time," he said, adding that, "The government initially promised us that justice would be given to the victim in six months. However, it is a court matter so we have no control over it. We want all the three accused, who were involved in this brutal act, to be hanged in public."

He further said the victim's mother was happy with the judgement. "She says the way her daughter was heinously and brutally raped and killed, the same treatment should be meted out to these culprits too. They should be killed in public forum by tying these culprits to tree and wild dogs should set free to kill them," he added.

"The government should also make an amendment in this act to ensure quick punishment to the culprits. In such cases, the judgement of the respective court should be out in two-three months. The law should act as a deterrent," he said.

Sanjiv Bhor, president of Shiv Prahar Sangathan from Ahmednagar welcomed the court decision. "This is a landmark case in Maharashtra. It holds a lot of significance. Because of this incidents, thousands from the Maratha community came to the streets to press for justice for the victim.

The Kopardi rape victim got justice today. The culprits will be punished and henceforth, no one will dare to commit such acts. People will respect the law of the land. We are thankful to public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who in limited time, fought the case.
