Kisan Long March | Mumbai police ensures smooth traffic flow

The Mumbai police ensured that the traffic does not get affected while the farmer's long march was heading from Mulund to Sion's Somaya ground on Sunday. The 'long march' marched through the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) in order to gherao the Vidhan Bhavan on Monday.

While the march progressed, there were sufficient police force and security personnel deployed to avoid any untoward incident

The police had reserved the southbound service road on EEH for the rally and had barricaded the left-hand lane of EHH to stop the vehicles from entering the service road. Around dozens of police vehicles escorted the farmer's march, originating in Nashik, while they raised slogans in the scorching heat.

As a precautionary measure, the service road from Mulund to Sion was also guarded by the traffic police and local policemen

Several traffic diversions between Sion and Mulund also took place so that commuters do not get stuck in the traffic congestion.

"Considering that a large number of people were marching on the EEH which can lead to traffic congestion, we had advised the commuters to use the LBS Road, the Sion-Panvel Road and the Thane-Belapur route to reach South Mumbai instead of the EEH," said Dipak Deoraj, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (operations).

Heavy vehicles were also restricted on the EEH from Mulund check Naka towards Sion.

"On the EEH, south-bound from Anand Nagar Toll Plaza in Mulund up to Somaiya Ground in Sion remained closed from 9 am to 10 pm for all types of heavy vehicles and goods-carrying vehicles. While a lane on the south-bound carriageway was kept reserved for light vehicles with a speed restriction up to 20km per hour," said a traffic police official.

The heavy vehicles heading towards Thane were diverted via the Sion- Panvel Highway, Vashi Creek, Airoli and Vitava.
