The people who had orchestrated the killing of Meenakshi Jaiswal, former chairperson of State Child Rights Commission, had visited her a day before committing the crime.

The police have arrested four people, including two on Sunday. They had taken two of the accused, Vinayak Chuahan, 45, and Maninder Singh Bajwa, 22, within a few hours of the crime. On Sunday, they arrested Suraj Jaiswar, 25, and Suraj Batra, 53, both Kharghar residents. Batra was arrested from Kharghar, and Jaiswar from his sister's residence in Turbhe. Chauhan was Jaiswal's part-time driver and used to do odd jobs for her.

Jaiswal's elder son, Vidyasagar, who is a doctor in Nashik, said: "I don't know any of the suspects except Chauhan. I had stayed with my mother for 17 days and left for Nashik two days before the incident. My mother had dropped me at Kharghar railway station. None of the suspects (arrested by police) had visited our residence in that period."

"A day after I reached Nashik, my mother told me (on phone) that Vinayak Chauhan, one Batra and his wife had come to our residence in the evening. But I don't know what they discussed. They spent around an hour with my mother and left after having tea," Vidyasagar said.

"When we checked my mother's phone after the crime, we found Chauhan had called her around 11.15am. They talked for 5.20 minutes. She was murdered the same day between 3pm and 6 pm. We later gave the phone to the police," he said.

Jaiswal, 46, was hacked to death on Friday when she was alone in her flat in Celebration Complex at Kharghar. After killing her, the culprits escaped with cash and jewellery collectively worth Rs 2.5 lakh. The police have so far recovered jewellery worth Rs 60,000.

"Bajwa and Jaiswar are electricians, who had worked at Jaiswal's residence two months ago. Batra is a part-time real estate broker and money lender. The victim had visited Batra three to four times. Chauhan and Batra had drawn up the murder plan and asked Bajwa and Jaiswar to execute it," said Sanjay Yenpure, DCP zone II.

Cops said they had been lucky to have come across a security guard who had overheard the entire plan. He revealed everything he knew leading cops to the accused. "We are planning to give him monetary reward for his cooperation," the officer added.
