Over 40 students studying at Dadar's Shardashram Vidyalaya were yet again barred from entering the school premises owing to confrontation between the school and parents over the issue of fee hike. On Tuesday, as the children arrived, school officials allegedly barred them from entering the premises until their parents paid the fees.

Only after a large number of parents gathered at the school requesting their children be allowed to enter, did the school concede. The school, however, served a notice to these parents asking them to not send their children to school until they pay the fees as per the revised fee structure.

"School authorities were to have a meeting with parents on Thursday to discuss the fee hike issue. Even before hearing us out, they barring students from entering the school and compelling us to pay the hiked fees, which is a clear violation of the Right to Education Act," a parent said.

DNA had earlier reported about the ordeal of parents after the school allegedly hiked the fees from Rs 25,000 to Rs42,000, which was communicated to the parents only a few days before the new academic year began in June.
Earlier on July 17, students were barred from entering the school premises.

Parents have complained to the state education department and are planning to take legal action against the school. "We are going to register a police complaint against the meted out to the children. Until the decision is taken on this issue, we would continue to send the children to school" said a parent.

Despite repeated calls, officials from the school could not be reached for a comment.

School at it again

Students were previously denied entry on July 17 after parents raised objection to last-minute fee hike.
On Tuesday, parents were told to not send their children to school until they deposited the revised fee.
