The victim has been identified as Shreya Meshram. Meshram stayed with her grandmother in the slums of Tunga village in Powai, while her parents stays in Solapur.
Body of three-year-old girl who had recently gone missing from Powai was found on Wednesday. This is second such incident in past few days. Her body has been sent to Rajawadi hospital for post-mortem and the report would clarify that how the girl was killed and whether she was sexually assaulted before murder. A similar incident had taken place in Mankhurd few days ago.
The victim has been identified as Shreya Meshram. Meshram stayed with her grandmother in the slums of Tunga village in Powai, while her parents stays in Solapur.
According to the police, on March 06, Meshram was playing in her locality and when she did not return home till late night her relatives approached the police. The police had then registered a missing person's complaint in the matter.
The locals, too, launched a search operation to trace Meshram, but could not find her and since the police were unable to trace the girl, local residents staged a protest in Tunga village on Monday. Even the help of social media was taken and Meshram's photograph and family's contact details were circulated over various social media platforms.
On Wednesday afternoon, a police patrolling team found Meshram's body in a nullah at an isolated place at Saki-Vihar Road, 500-metres away from Tunga village. The police also found Meshram's clothes near the nullah. Meshram's family was then informed after which they identified the body. Meshram's clothes were sent to forensic department for examination.
"There is a business park close to the spot where the body was found. The said business park is shut since past few years and two security guards are placed to man the premises in two shifts. The compound wall of the business park has a hole which we suspect was created by the druggies to enter the premises," said a police officer.
The police have taken in the CCTV footage recording of the business park and are making inquiries with the security guards, sources said.
