A 54-year-old doctor allegedly hanged himself at his clinic-cum-residence in Khar on Thursday. The suicide note he is said to have left behind reveals that he was fed up of the harassment his business partner and a private developer were causing him, and hence, he was ending his life.

The Nirmal Nagar police have arrested the deceased’s business partner, Hidayat Ullah Khan, 49, a doctor, and Tayab Tanvar, 50, the private developer, on the charge of abetment to suicide. Khan lives in Andheri (West) and Tanvar in Santa Cruz.

The police said the deceased Rajendra Maruti Borade owned Sanjeevani Hospital and lived on the premises’ first floor. His wife works in MTNL and his two daughters are doing their MBBS; one is abroad and the other in Mumbai.

The incident came to light after the hospital’s cashier found Borade hanging in his restroom at 12.15pm and alerted other staff members.

A police officer said that during the search they found Borade’s suicide note. He said the note read, “Mee attyant niraash jhalelo aahe. Dr Khan ni mala far uddhvast kela aahe. Tanvar pan paise dyayala taalaataal karat aahe. Mee sarvancha aparadhi aahe. Mala kshama kara... Rajan (I am very depressed. Dr Khan has destroyed me. Tanvar, too, has been dilly-dallying in returning my money. I have hurt you all [by this act]. Please forgive me... Rajan).”

Senior inspector Ashok Borse said, “Based on the suicide note we arrested the two. They were produced in court and remanded in police custody for three days.”

“On June 11, Borade had written a suicide note and given it to his daughter. At that time his family pacified him and convinced him not to do anything drastic. But on Thursday, when his wife and daughter were at work, he wrote a note again and hanged himself,” Borse added.

An officer said, “The victim had given Rs9 lakh to Tanvar as token amount for buying a flat in Navi Mumbai, which cost Rs30 lakh. However, as he couldn’t arrange for the rest of the amount, he had asked Tanvar to return his money.

The latter kept giving him excuses and delaying the repayment.”

“The victim had suffered a paralytic stroke around 10 years ago, which had rendered one of his hands non-functional. So, we are verifying how he managed to take such a drastic step.”

The police are investigating the case from all possible angles and recording the statement of Borade’s family members and hospital staffers. They are waiting for the post-mortem report to know the exact cause of death.
