The Khar police have arrested a 22-year-old man for breaking into a bank in Khar (West) early on Sunday. The man allegedly spent over 19 hours trying to enter the bank’s strongroom, but in vain. On interrogation, the man revealed that he wanted instant money so he could marry his girlfriend.

The police traced him using CCTV footage from the camera inside the bank, and he was arrested from Nalasopara, where he lives.

The accused has been identified as Zuber Khan, who works as an electrician at an electrical shop in Khar. He is native of Uttar Pradesh and has been living in Mumbai for around a decade.

The bank Khan broke into is on the first floor of Pinky Plaza building on 5th Road in Khar.

“Khan inspected the place carefully for a week and on Sunday around 3.30am, he removed the window grille and entered the bank. He tried to break into the bank strongroom, but could not succeed,” said senior inspector Vikash Sonawane of the Khar police station.

“After several hours, he noticed the CCTV camera. He disconnected the camera around 4.30pm. He took a mobile phone which was left behind by an employee of the bank. He fled from the bank around 10.30pm on Sunday” said Sonawane.
