Thousands of villagers from Khalapur have shown readiness to give their land for infrastructure development. The farmers, who are going to form their own company, would be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government during the Make in India week. Now, the government through City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (Cidco) would be able to acquire 1,400hectare of land for development in Khalapur and adjoining areas.

Sanjay Bhatia, the vice-chairman and managing director of Cidco, informed that head of all villages would sign an MoU with the government either on Wednesday of Thursday. The MoU would provide fillip to the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (Naina) project.

The Naina project consists of 256 villages from Raigad district and 14 villages from Thane district lying beyond Navi Mumbai. Bhatia informed that while the farmers would form their company and the total land of 3,500 hectares would be shared in 60 and 40 per cent by villagers and the government, respectively. "Out of 40 per cent land which is 1,400 hectare, infrastructure creation would require 25 per cent and the remaining 15 per cent would be commercially utilized for the project," he added.

The farmers would form their company and would enjoy additional FSI (floor space index) for giving away the land for the infra project. The villages, which now have just 0.1 per cent, would enjoy an FSI of 1.7 and it would result in rapid development as well as hike in land prices.

The Hadapsar Magarpatta township and Nanded city projects have been path-breaking projects and the same model is being worked out at Khalapur as well.
