Two days after a four-year-old KG student was allegedly molested in a Juhu school, the accused, who worked as a cleaner and was arrested on Tuesday, has been sent to police custody till October 8.
The police said that the offence took place inside the school washroom and not in a classroom, during recess on Tuesday. The accused, Saby Chavan, 25, took the girl inside the washroom and allegedly told her that he will administer an injection if she spoke about the incident to anybody, before molesting her.
Abhay Shastri, senior PI of Juhu police, said, "The girl narrated the incident to her parents after reaching home. She was immediately taken to the hospital. They registered a complaint on Wednesday. We rounded up all the cleaners of the school and Chavan confessed to the crime. He does not have any past criminal record." The accused has been arrested for molestation, criminal intimidation and other relevant sections under the Protection of Children from sexual Offences (POCSO) act.
The accused has been working in the school for the past one year. "We are inquiring if he had misbehaved with other kids. We are taking statements from the school authorities as well." According to the police, the school has CCTVs installed everywhere including the classrooms. Therefore, the accused took the child to the washroom.
The police is planning to write letter of advisory to the school to take necessary actions as such an incident is taking place for the second time in the school. Additional Commissioner of police, West, Milind Bharambe, said, "We will be issuing a letter and warn the school as such incidents cannot be tolerated."
"The police along with family members and school authorities have viewed the complete CCTV footage of 3.5 hours that the child was in school. Nothing untoward has been found. We are in constant touch with the investigating authorities and are providing all the support and information possible," school's spokesperson said.
Last year, a school bus cleaner of the same school was arrested and later convicted after he molested a three-year-old KG student.
