Police informer and complainant of the infamous Keenan-Reuben murder case, Avinash Solanki aka Bali was allegedly killed by two people and the police learnt about the incident two days after the murder.

Solanki (38), who was found dead in a shop in Andheri east, was injured severely on his head and abdomen after which he was rushed to Cooper hospital where he was declared dead.

According to the MIDC police, Solanki was a police informer and had good contacts in almost all police stations of zone IX and zone X including Amboli, Goregaon, Saki Naka, MIDC, Powai, Meghwadi, Santacruz and D N Nagar. For curbing the nuisance of drug smuggling and tracking down drug peddlers in the vicinity, Solanki helped cops to conduct many operations. He has helped the Narcotics department by providing crucial tip-offs.

The police have identified the suspect as Nilesh Shukla who is said to be a friend of Solanki and has been alleged to have killed him for an unknown reason. Police sources have said, that the incident was reported during wee hours of Monday when, brother of Nilesh, Kamesh Shukla informed the police and they together broke the shutter of the shop belonging to Nilesh and later they found body of Solanki in an objectionable position after, being kept for 2 days.

"Nilesh and me were not in good terms for a while and on Friday night he called me and said that something has happened at his shop. At that time I did not took him seriously. Later, my mother told me that, Nilesh rushed home and was nervous and had worn a blood stained shirt."said Kamesh.

Finding Solanki missing for a long time, a group came inquiring about him and asked Kamesh to open the shop. Kamlesh, who was not having the keys sensed something suspicious on smelling the odor coming from shop. He contacted the control room and called for police help. The police team broke the shutter of the shop and discovered a dead body lying in a pool of blood.

"The accused had made sure that the body does not get identified and so he kept the body as it is and turned on the AC at very low temperature so that nothing comes under suspicion. The AC was not so strong enough to prevent infection so when we found the body, it had already begun decomposing. Solanki had but sustained deep injuries on his body. We also called forensic team and found bottles of alcohol on a table nearby. We assume the murder could have been done by 2 persons who were known to Solanki." said a police officer.

The police is trying to nab the suspect who is believed to be absconding after the murder. Police report also says that Nilesh and Solanki were good friends and as per investigation, the duo were often spotted together at Nilesh's shop. Nilesh who is a dealer cum distributor of pharmaceutical products owns a shop of medicinal and fitness products in Apollo Industrial area where the murder took place.

"On looking at the condition of the body recovered, it is very much clear that the murder took place before 24 hours. Solanki had multiple injuries and we are awaitng autopsy report to get more clear picture of the case. Once we get hold of the suspect, we shall get more details and all possible angles are being investigated to know what was the motive behind the murder. Relative investigation is going on and concerned persons are being questioned. Section 302 (murder) has been booked against the accused and search is going on,"said Navinchandra Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone X.
