Residents of 90 buildings in Kalyan Dombivli are facing the civic body's wrath for their non-payment of taxes. The land owners and developers did not pay heed to paying taxes to the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and now a strong stand has been taken, wherein basic amenities provided to the residents will be stopped.

As part of its monitoring body's campaign, which falls under the KDMC chief E Ravindran, deputy commissioners from every ward will conduct checks and recover the taxes, which is estimated at a minimum of Rs180 crore.

"As of now, we have sealed eight buildings, while notices have been issued to the rest of the buildings directing them to pay the taxes in time and if the land owner and developers fail to pay the taxes, then we will auction the property and recover the taxes," said a senior KDMC official.

He added that the services provided by the KDMC will be stopped to the defaulters and a legal action will be taken against the defaulters. "While residents have no option, but to convey the message to the developers or to face inconvenience till the taxes are not paid," said the official.

With this civic body order, the residents are left in a trauma. "Though we are not at fault as developers and land owners have defaulted on paying the taxes to the civic body, we have to face the wrath," said Shakuntala Nautiyal, a resident of Kalyan.

"We will be homeless if we are evicted from our homes due to the mistake of the land owners and developers as they took money from us and gave us the flats, but now they are not even answering our calls," said Shasidhar Pandey, a resident of Kalyan.
