With a view to work for the education of underprivileged children in and around the city, the Rotaract Club of Kishinchand Chellaram (KC) College, Churchgate, recently kick started its initiative —’edYOUcation’. Under the initiative, students of the college plan to carry out a number of activities with an aim to provide access of education to underprivileged children.

To begin with, students of the club have recently conducted a detailed survey amongst students to try and understand in what ways each one can help in their cause. The survey would be followed by their initiative ‘Pasti se Pustak’ in which students would collect old newspapers and scrap papers from students from the college and nearby areas and sell them to raise funds for the education of these students.

“The idea is to aid students who are out of school and educate them by providing the necessary help. We hope to collect a large amount of newspapers which can then be sold, and the money can be used to buy stationery and books for students who cannot afford them,” said Devika Deshpande, Joint Secretary, Rotaract Club of KC College.

In the second phase of the initiative, the club has collaborated with XPress foundation, an NGO working for the education of underprivileged children. “We plan to send a few of our volunteers into schools where the NGO is currently working. This way we would try and do all that we can to ensure that we help the needy students,” added Deshpande.
