Kasab's death due to asphyxia: Post-mortem report

A team of medical officers from the prison clinic, who had been summoned to the prison early on Wednesday morning, carried out the post-mortem within minutes of his execution in the clinic itself.

“Death due to asphyxia” was the reason attributed to the death of Ajmal Amir Kasab.

A team of medical officers from the prison clinic, who had been summoned to the prison early on Wednesday morning, carried out the post-mortem within minutes of his execution in the clinic itself.

The entire procedure was captured on camera as evidence. The doctors sent the post-mortem report to the home department by Wednesday evening.

The medical officers examined Kasab before he was hanged and certified that he was physically and mentally fit to be executed. Sources in the prison said Kasab looked dejected but cooperated while he was being examined.

Soon after he was declared dead by medical officers, his body was taken for post-mortem to the clinic where in inquest punchnama was carried out.

Sources said the inquest revealed that Kasab had defecated as he died.

The procedure went on for 45 minutes, after which Kasab was dressed again and taken for his burial.
