Basing their argument on Mumbai Fire Brigade's report, the owners of 1 Above eatery argued on Thursday in Bhoiwada Court they had no role to play in the fire that killed 14 people at Kamala Mills Compound in December. The Fire Brigade's report gave the owners a clean chit, saying the blaze originated at Mojo's Bistro.
"The arrested owners of the 1 Above have no role in section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code," argued Advocate Kiran Jain, defence counsel on Thursday.
Late on Wednesday night, the Mumbai police arrested Kripesh Sanghavi and Jigar Sanghavi from Linking road in Bandra; Abhijit Mankar was arrested on Thursday morning from Marine Drive. All three are partners in 1 Above.
Interior designers of both restaurants will also be booked for illegal changes made to the establishments, say police. The NM Joshi Marg police demanded 14 days of custody of all three 1 Above owners in Bhoiwada court, saying they needed to collect information about the interior designer and interrogate the owners of Mojo Bistro and 1 Above together.
