The Kamala Mills fire once again proved that Mumbai’s civic authorities haven’t learnt their lessons from incidents like the fire at a cultural programme during Make In India week at Girgaum Chowpaty.

The recent incidents of fire at the farsan shop at Saki Naka this month, a massive fire at City Kinara hotel in Kurla in October 2015 , and the Make In India week fire in which VIPs and dignitaries had a close shave, seem to have left no mark on the authorities.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had ordered an inquiry into the Girgaum fire. The 185-page report concluded that a faulty or defective electric circuit was the cause for the fire. Interestingly, the inquiry report, which blamed the organisers and the event management company, did not recommend any action against them.
