Yug Pathak, son of retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer KK Pathak, claimed innocence during the police investigation in connection with the fire that charred a part of Kamala Mills last month. Pathak also told the police that his employees from Mojo's Bistro safely evacuated everyone from the spot as no casualty was reported in their establishment.

"Pathak said he does not know how the fire took place. He said he was not in Mumbai then. He said in his defence that no casualty was reported in Mojo's Bistro and all guests were safely evacuated," said a police officer, who is part of the investigation team.

NM Joshi Marg police arrested Pathak on Saturday, a day after the Mumbai Fire Brigade submitted its investigation report on the incident, which said that the fire started at Mojo's Bistro and adjacent 1 Above was also engulfed in it, which claimed 14 lives and left several others injured.

Apart from Pathak, the police also added the name of his partner Yug Tuli in the FIR already registered in the matter.

The FIR filed on December 29 had earlier named the owners of 1 Above — Kripesh Sanghavi, Jigar Sanghavi, and Abhijeet Mankar — they were charged with Indian Penal Code sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life and personal safety of others) and other relevant provisions.
