A 58-year-old woman and the driver of the auto she was travelling in sustained severe injuries after an SUV, a Range Rover, dashed into the three-wheeler in Juhu on Tuesday.

The police said the vehicle belongs to the grandson of Kamal Amrohi and son of Tajdar Amrohi, who are prominent Bollywood personalities. However, at the time of the accident, driver Hamid Shaikh was alone in it.

The incident took place around 4.30pm on Tuesday when Dinta Mehta, along with a relative, was heading home. She had barely reached near Bhartiya Arogya Nidhi hospital behind Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow, when the speeding car hit their auto. Mehta got a fracture in her left wrist and her relative sustained minor injuries. However, the auto driver sustained a head injury.

Passers-by rushed the trio to Nanavati hospital, the police said.

The Juhu police arrested Shaikh under sections 279 and 338 of the IPC. “Shaikh was not under the influence of alcohol and he was granted bail from the police station,” said senior police inspector Arun Bhagat of the Juhu police station.
