Valentine's day celebration turned sour for a Kalyan college student when he was picked up by cops for lack of proper bike documents. He was waiting to pick up his girlfriend near Atre hall when the incident happened.
On February 14 Vijay Mishra, 22 a commerce student from Kalyan's L D Sonawane college was near Atre hall at 10am. "I was waiting to meet my friend on Valentine's day when two men in plain clothes approached me," says Vijay. "They probed me and asked why I was standing there. I was stunned but when asked me for bike papers I realized they might be cops," he adds. He told them that the papers are at his home and his brother will bring them.
The cops took him to Bazarpeth police station and Vijay alleges that the police beat him up. "They stripped my jacket and shirt and searched me. They said that I was their bait to get money for celebrating valentine day. Then they punched me and kicked me," he alleges.
Till then his elder brother Dev had reached the police station and that is when he learned that it was confusion over the number plate on the bike. "The bike's number plate has registration number MH04-AU of which U is missing," he added. "The cops told us that this bike number is faulty, and that they will lodge a case of bike theft and also bank robbery on Vijay. They also beat up my brother," he alleged.
A scared Dev quickly tweeted about this incident. The police on the other hand registered a case against Vijay. "We have registered a non-cognisable offence against Vijay who has been let off after depositing Rs. 1200. He has to be present in Kalyan court tomorrow morning where the judge will decide the fine and the deposit will be refunded," said a police official from Bazarpeth police station.
After being let off from the police station, the brothers said that they will lodge a complaint against the cops for harassment. "We are giving a written complaint to the DCP about this unfair treatment meted out to my innocent brother," says Dev.
