Man installs 30 CCTVs in Kalyan, cops welcome move

With the help of this drive, the NGO aims to bring down the crime cases in the city. Sharing further information, he said the footage will be with the locals for 15 days and it will help the cops to solve crime cases, if any.

The area around the busy Sadanand Chowk in Kalyan (west) is no exception to crimes like chain snatching and burgalaries. In an attempt to bring these crimes under control and help the police nab culprits, Jatin Prajapati of Astitva NGO has installed 30 CCTVs in the area.

Prajapati, who is in to construction business, has also been running NGO Astitva in Kalyan for past 10 years.

"Many chain-snatching incidents, burglaries and stealing of petrol from vehicles parked on the road are registered in the area. So, I decided to take action to curb the crimes," said Prajapati, adding that he plans to install more CCTVs as per the need.

With the help of this drive, the NGO aims to bring down the crime cases in the city. Sharing further information, he said the footage will be with the locals for 15 days and it will help the cops to solve crime cases, if any.

In the last four days, CCTVs were installed on the streets of Jain society, Chikalebag, Hirabag, Vikas Apartments, Ekveera Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Kali Masjid and Santoshimata temple road. "These CCTVs are being manned by the locals of the respective areas and if more are needed, then they can approach me," he added.

The deputy commissioner of police, Sanjay Jadhav (Kalyan zone) hailed the move. "Such initiatives will help us bring the crime rate under control. We usually ask the societies to install CCTVs so that it helps us," he said. On being asked if these CCTVs are misused by the locals, Jadhav said, "We have asked them to give us a recording room at our chowky so that we can also monitor."
