The government has also launched a high-level committee to investigate the Scorpene leak from the Indian side, with a similar probe being conducted in France.

The first of the Kalvari-class submarines is likely to be commissioned by year-end with another of these undersea platforms expected to be launched soon, notwithstanding the leak of classified data about capabilities of its under-construction Scorpene submarines.

The government has also launched a high-level committee to investigate the Scorpene leak from the Indian side, with a similar probe being conducted in France. However, the initial probe has revealed that the leak did not happen from India but the DCNS office in France. The Navy's six Scorpene-class stealth submarines are being constructed under the much-delayed Project-75 at the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in collaboration with DCNS, France to augment its depleted and ageing submarine fleet.

"There is a high-level committee which is inquiring into the Scorpene leak on our side. Similarly, in France, DCNS and the French government have also launched an inquiry. Based on these inquiries, we will see if any mitigation measures are required," said Admiral Sunil Lanba, chief of naval staff. "The initial probe has revealed that the leak was not from India but has happened from the DCNS office in France," he added.

"As far as Project-75 (I) goes, the ministry has decided it is going to be part of the strategic partnership project where you have an overseas technology partner. A committee which was formed last year has identified which Indian shipyard can participate... and once the ministry decides on the strategic partnership model, Project 75 India will move forward," said Lanba at the launch of INS Mormugao, the second guided missile destroyer under Project 15-B at the MDL on Saturday.

Project-75 (I) seeks to construct a new line of submarines as a follow-on to Project-75 class submarines to augment the underwater stealth arm of the Indian Navy.

"The sea trials of the first submarine (Kalvari) are on. We will try to commission it by year-end," said Rear Admiral R.K Shrawat (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, MDL, adding that work was underway on the launch of the second submarine (Khanderi). The sea trials of Kalvari, which was launched last year, began in May.

"Today is a proud moment for the nation, the Indian Navy and Mazagon Docks Limited with the launch of the second ship of Project 15 Bravo," said Lanba, stating that the Project 15 B series was an improvement over the previous Project 15 A series due to improved stealth features and weapons package. "This is a state-of-art destroyer, among the best in the world," noted Lanba, adding that the warship would add to the capabilities of the Indian Navy and the nation's maritime capabilities.
