Deputy chief fire officer Sudhir Amin (49) was stuck in the blazing rubble for nearly two-and-a-half hours before being rescued by leading fireman Avinash More (51). More gave an account of the torture Amin underwent before getting admitted to National Burns Centre in Airoli.

"Amin's legs were stuck in the debris. He was desperately shouting for help. It was difficult to pull him out before the fire extinguished," said More.

The fireman added that Amin said to him, "Saw my legs off if need be, but take me out of this blazing fire. My entire body is burning."

"The temperature at the site was soaring above a 100 degrees. Burnt wood and remnants were continuously falling on Amin's face and body. His entire body had turned red with blisters," More told dna.

Amin was laid on the stretcher and taken off to NBC in the ambulance around 9.30pm. "Until Amin was laid on to the stretcher, he was conversing. Then he just laid both his hands down and, en route to the hospital, became unconscious."

More had known Amin ever since he had joined service 25 years ago. Amin was actively involved in rescue operations during the 26/11 terror attack. "Amin was a braveheart and a very diligent mentor. He inspired all the firemen and led from the front," said More.
