Juhu murder: Accused brothers arrested, stolen booty recovered

The Juhu police investigating the murder of a 50-year-old woman have arrested two accused who are brothers. While the prime accused, Dilip Mandal, 19, has been arrested from Sonipat in Haryana, the second accused, Shyam Mandal, 23 has been arrested from New Delhi While 60% of the stolen booty was recovered from Shyam, Dilip was in possession of the rest. According to the police, the duo had plotted the murder a few weeks ago. While Dilip worked at the home of the deceased, Shyam was a domestic help in a home in Walkeshwar. According to the police, Shyam had a tiff with his tenant and he was recently fired from his job. The duo will be brought to Mumbai after which they will be questioned further.

How did they plot the murder?
The family of the deceased were part of a family wedding two days ago and they had got all the jewellery to their home after the wedding. Dilip apparently spotted them keeping the jewellery in the cupboard and lockers. Him, along with his brother, plotted to rob and kill Parikh. According to the police, Dilip committed the murder and handed over the booty to his brother. Later, they took two separate trains. The duo decided to not go to their hometown in Bihar. While Dilip went to Haryana, Shyam took a train to Delhi. Shyam was a domestic help in a home in Walkeshwar. According to the police, Shyam had a tiff with his tenant and he was recently fired from his job. He was unemployed when the incident happened.

What happened on Monday?
The deceased, Minoti Parikh was allegedly robbed and strangled on the third floor of her residence in Guru Kripa building in JVPD on Monday. The feet and hand of the deceased were tied up with clothes and she was strangulated by a cloth. Her body was found dumped in the bathroom. Dilip fled with Rs1 lakh, and diamonds and gold worth Rs33.5 lakh after committing the murder and later he gave the booty to his brother. The same day, they took separate trains to Delhi and Haryana.

How did the sleuths zero in on the accomplice?
Three teams, one from crime branch and two of the local police were sent to Bihar, the native place of Dilip, as well as to Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. An officer from Juhu police said: “Our team in Delhi and UP detained both the accused. Most of the valuables were found with Shyam. The duo were tracked through phone locations and information from some of the friends of the duo. According to officials, Dilip's friends said that he was to attend a wedding in May-June and thus may have stolen the valuables to splurge on his wedding.
