Residents of Juhu Tara Road are up in arms over drug peddlers operating brazenly in their locality and have now decided to take matters into their own hands to curb the drug menace. They claim they are forced to do so due to their complaints falling on deaf ears of the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police.

"We are facing a huge problem in our locality with women selling marijuana and hashish to college students and minors. As soon as we confront them, they run away and return later to sell the drugs openly on the streets without any fear from the police teams patrolling the streets," claimed Ashok Rohira, a realtor and resident of Juhu.

"Despite complaining to the police and Anti Narcotics Cell several times, our pleas have fallen on deaf ears and we are left with no option but to take matters in our own hands," said Mary Dias, a resident of Juhu.

Anish Makwani, a local corporator from BJP, said, "We have decided that we will patrol the streets to find drug peddlers, and will hand them over to the police. Despite police complaints, we have not got any respite."

When DNA visited the area, this correspondent found that the drugs were available within 100 meters distance of a police chowki at Juhu beach. A woman going by the name 'Kakutai' was openly selling marijuana on Juhu beach.

Paramjit Singh Dahiya, DCP Zone 9, said, "We will definitely take action against the drug peddlers in the locality and will make sure that we meet the locals and resolve their issues."

On Friday, Juhu MLA Ameet Satam in a series of tweets slammed Shivdeep Lande, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anti Narcotics Cell) for allegedly insulting him and rudely disconnecting his phone call when he complained about the drug menace in Juhu locality and nearby educational institutes.
