Six people allegedly forcibly entered a plush bungalow in Juhu in the wee hours of Friday, attacked an elderly businessman with a sickle, tied his five domestic helps and decamped with valuables worth Rs2.23 lakh. The issue has once again raised concerns over safety and security of senior citizens in the city. The robbery was allegedly on for 50 minutes.

The incident took place between 2am and 2.50am at Jay Mata Kutir bungalow number R-371 on Gandhi Gram Road at Juhu beach.

According to the police, six unidentified people entered the bungalow by breaking the latch of the main gate. They then attacked the complainant, Harishchandra Mishra (69), with a sickle on both his hands.

The dacoits tied up five of Mishra's domestic helps and decamped with three mobile phones, 45 grams of gold ornaments and watches, all worth Rs2.23 lakh, an officer said.

"It is indeed a shocking incident and raises further concern, as, apart from the victim, there were five other people in the house and yet the dacoity took place. We are investigating the case and also probing the involvement of an insider," said an officer from Juhu police station.
