At least three officials from the Law department and Building Proposal department of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are likely to be suspended for their lethargic approach, while dealing the Jogeshwari plot matter in the Supreme Court, which the civic body lost.

The enquiry, which was carried out by the Nidhi Chaudhary, deputy municipal commissioner (Special) has reportedly recommended strictest action against at least three officials from these two departments of BMC that dealt with the case. Chaudhary submitted the report on Tuesday to civic body chief Ajoy Mehta.

Mehta is currently studying the report and he will submit to the standing committee chairman on Thursday. Civic standing committee sought clarification after the case was lost and also asked the administration to suspend officials involved.

The report, which was prepared in two parts, has also recommended a revamp of the entire law department. There is a separate report for Law department and Building Proposal department.

According to sources, one official from Building Proposal department, and two officials from the Law department may also face suspension. However, prima facie, it does not seem like the civic body will file an FIR against them.

Initially, the BMC lost the case in the High Court as it failed to acquire 3.3 acre plot in Jogeshwari, worth Rs 500 crore within one year of purchase order. As per the rule, after purchase order is submitted by a land owner at the BMC, the civic body has to complete the process of acquiring it within one year.

However, in this case, the one year mandatory period had lapsed and the civic body lost the case and the land. The land was reserved as a recreational ground as per the 1991 development plan of the city.
