Naresh Waghela, an employee of JJ hospital, who had slapped atrocity charges against the dean of the hospital, Dr Tatya Lahane, on Wednesday informed the court of his decision to withdraw his complaint.

The complainant, in his written statement, said that the complaint was registered in a fit of rage and that it was the outcome of a misunderstanding.

DNA accessed the three-page statement, which Waghela had made before the court. The copy read, "On February 14, 2014, I had filed an FIR against the Dean of JJ hospital, TP Lahane under the Prevention of Atrocity Act at the JJ Marg police station. The police have completed investigations into the matter, and a charge sheet has been filed.

On that day, the situation at JJ hospital was very volatile. We all were given temporary work and were under the stress of losing out on our jobs, which led to disputes among the hospital authorities on a daily basis."

On February 14, I had an altercation with Atul Patel. We were standing near the OPD, and asked Shikha (role not known) to participate in our strike. "It was then that Dr Lahane along with other staff members approached us, and they tried to settle our disputes." The statement also stated that Waghela accepted that the FIR was registered by him at the police station in a fit of rage, and later he realised that the entire episode happened due to his misunderstanding of the situation.

He further mentioned that he would like to withdraw the complaint, and that he does not want to pursue it further. "No one has pressured me to withdraw the complaint," Waghela said.

On February 14, Narayan Waghela, a temporary sweeper at JJ Hospital, lodged a case against Dr Lahane alleging that the doctor had verbally abused him and made a derogatory casteist remark. An FIR was lodged against the doctor under sections 3 (1) and 10 of the Atrocities Act and IPC.
