A JJ hospital employee was suspended after allegations of bribery were levelled against him. Vasant Karande, 52, a Class IV worker in the medical superintendent’s office, has been suspended indefinitely for allegedly demanding a bribe of about Rs500 for issuing a medical fitness certificate to a man vying for a government job.
The victim had recorded the conversation between him and Karande in July. He alleged that Karande demanded a bribe from him in the name of former medical superintendent Dr HH Jadhav.
The victim later approached the ACB with the CD of the audio recording. The ACB then issued a notice to JJ hospital to initiate a departmental inquiry against Karande.
“However, the inquiry is yet to be set up. In the meanwhile, Karande has been suspended,” said Dr TP Lahane, dean, JJ hospital.
