The B ward of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to beautify the central median below the JJ Flyover with decorative lights. The beautification work will be carried out along the 2.5 km stretch from JJ Police station to Crawford Market.
Earlier, the BMC had carried out development and beautification work of central medians, or bays beneath the JJ flyover on Mohammad Ali Road and Ibrahim Rahimtullah Road. The bay is the space between two pillars under a flyover.
To add more beauty in this particular stretch, the B ward has planned to set up decorative lights that will be illuminated in the evenings.
"The colourful light will be set up at the bottom of the pillars while bollard lights will be used along the garden," said Udaykumar Shiroorkar, assistant commissioner of B ward.
Sachin Jadhav, Sub Engineer (electrical) of B ward informed, "We will use 50 RGBW (Red, Green, Blue and White) lights and LED bollard lights in the garden." He added that a total of 112 RGBW while 350 bollard lights will be used.
The lights will be lit from 7 pm to 12 pm. "These lights will be set on a timer," said Shiroorkar.
Jadhav said, "We have received necessary permission to carry out the work and soon the budget of the project will also be finalised."
According to a senior official, around Rs1.5 crore will be spent on the lighting work.
In the last two years, the BMC has taken a number of measures to make the stretch look beautiful and make it encroachment-free.
At present, 36 bay gardens below the flyover have already been beautified with gardening and plantation. Twelve bollard lights will be set up in each bay.
