A 22-year-old boy allegedly attacked a girl at the Thane station on December 31, when she was returning home from work. He is the girl’s former boyfriend.

According to the police, Rekha Singh (name changed), 20, is a resident of Anandnagar, Kopri, Thane (E). The accused, Narendra Kave, 22, was in a relationship with the girl for the last three years. Singh was ignoring Kave because of his possessive nature. However, Kave wanted to marry Singh and was pestering her  for a long time.

On the night of December 31, as Singh reached Thane station, Kave met her and started talking about his marriage plans. When she refused, he took out a blade and tried to slit Singh’s throat twice. Singh underwent 35 stitches on her neck.   KP, Raghuvanshi, commissioner of police, Thane, said, “Kave swallowed poison after the incident. Both have been admitted in a hospital and are recuperating. A case has been registered at the Kopri police station. We will arrest Kave when he is in a   stable condition.”  An eye witness said, “The boy fled immediately after the attack. I shouted for help, but no one came forward. Three of us took Singh to a hospital.” The Kopri police station had registered a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).

The victim’s mother said, “The boy had beaten up my daughter on several occasions. We had filed a complaint at the Kopri police station, but no action was taken.” Rajendra Tawde, the victim’s uncle, said, “My family is not financially stable. The hospital has given us a bill of Rs40,000, which will be difficult for us to pay. We will shift the girl to the Thane civil hospital for further treatment. Her father is also getting treated in that hospital as he is mentally disturbed.”
