Jilted love motive behind Wagle estate murder, Thane police say

The Wagle estate police station has achieved a breakthrough in the murder of a woman, Priyanka Kharade, 22, on Wednesday near the passport office in Wagle estate. The police have found CCTV footage in which the woman is seen with a suspect whom the police have identified. Police suspect that the man was in love with Kharade, and may have murdered her because she married someone else.

The suspect is still absconding, police said.

The suspected accused was seen in the CCTV footage speaking with the victim. Later, they headed into the lane where the deceased was found dead of knife wounds.

A police official from the Wagle estate police station said, "We had a word with the family of the suspected accused. They said that he knew the deceased for past two years and that he had proposed marriage to the deceased. He has completed his SSC and was staying at Lokmanya Nagar Pada no.4 with his aunt. He had been missing since Wednesday evening and had switched off his cell phone. The girl got married on April 28. When he came to know about the marriage, he started roaming around near the house of the deceased. He even asked the friends of the deceased where she was and when she was coming back."

The official added, "We also came to know that the accused had a knife and was wandering about near the house of the deceased. When the husband of the deceased dropped her off at her home on May 5, the accused had planned to kill her the same day."
