Jiah Khan case: Court raps prosecution for seeking more time to file charges against Sooraj Pancholi

While reprimanding the prosecution, the court said, "This is not the way prosecution should be seeking adjournment; how long will you prolong this? ...long period was given so that you go through all the documents."

The prosecution on Monday sought an extension to file draft charges against actor Sooraj Pancholi for his alleged involvement in his actress girlfriend Jiah Khan's death. The court, however, was livid on the prosecution for seeking excess time even after it was given one month for its preparation. The matter finally adjourned to February 12.

While reprimanding the prosecution, the court said, "This is not the way prosecution should be seeking adjournment; how long will you prolong this? ...long period was given so that you go through all the documents."

However, the court asked the prosecution to file a written plea seeking additional time.

Later, the prosecution informed the court that the main reason for extension was a letter which it had addressed to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), seeking information on the probe conducted by the agency in the case.

Advocate Dinesh Tiwari, who appeared on behalf of the state, through his application, said Jiah's mother Rabiya Khan felt that there were certain aspects like the Blackberry messages (bbm) of Sooraj to Jiah which were not properly investigated and were untouched by the CBI. Therefore, she wanted to go through the agency's investigation reports.

Jiah Khan was found dead at her Juhu residence in June 2013. The local police were looking into the matter. Rabiya, however, claimed that the police were trying to hide the truth. She then approached the Bombay High Court, requesting it to direct the CBI to investigate the matter.
