A medical representative of a pharmaceutical company had given vials of ‘Norcuron’ or Vecuronium Bromide to 26-year-old Divya Machiraju who allegedly injected this muscle relaxant anaesthetic drug to commit suicide. Machiraju, a post graduate DNB student of anaesthesia medicine and a junior resident doctor at Jaslok Hospital, allegedly killed herself on January 3.
“While medical representatives pass on free drug samples to doctors for patients’ use, Divya used it to end her own life,” said a senior doctor at the hospital.
Dr Tarang Gianchandani, CEO, Jaslok Hospital, said: “We maintain strict logs of medicines which are acquired from hospital pharmacy. There is no way it was sourced from the hospital.”
“Divya spoke to a man named Jose before her death. A note lying by the side of her body said it had got something to do with a gift. We will nab and interrogate him,” said Krishna Prakash, ACP (south region).
