A viral message has called for Jain graduates to register as voters for the upcoming Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections likely to be held in July. Pointing out that there are only five days left, the message calls upon Jains to register as it is all “about existence of Jains”.

The message is also being circulated by Naypadmasagar Maharajsaheb, Jain monk, who was in news for asking community members to vote for BJP in BMC and Mira Bhayander elections. Back then, the Maharajsaheb had said the CM has agreed to his demands, including on Deonar abbatoir, and hence the community should vote for the BJP during civic polls.

The message even offers community members pick-up service for their forms to be submitted before the five-day deadline is over. While Naypadmasagar was not available for comment, advocate Ameet Mehta, director and legal advisor to Jain International, an organisation that Naypadmasagar has set up, said, “Every guru in a community may do a mass appeal. A priest may do this in church and a Maulana in mosque. He is doing the same.”
