A late day at work and guests coming home in the evening—a perpetual dilemma that most city dwellers are faced with. A two-word solution to this problem is Haute Chef, as Andheri-based hospitality professionals Shalini and Praveen Mohan discovered last weekend.

Having accepted the professionally packed box in the evening, the box was simply opened an hour before dinner time, that too after the guests had arrived. "As the vegetables are pre-diced into packets and other ingredients are pre-measured into little bottles or pouches, I only had to look at the instruction booklet and put it all together," exclaims Shalini, "In spite of having my one-year-old brat running around the kitchen, the dish was ready to be served in less than an hour. With step-by-step instructions and corresponding pictures, it is difficult to go wrong. You know exactly when to stop cooking. And the end product looked as good as the pictures on the sheet—no thanks to my own culinary skills," she adds.

This dinner of Greek Style Shrimp with Lemon Couscous & Feta Cheese and Spinach & Sun Dried Tomato Piadina with Romesco Sauce, enough for two portions each, would only set you back by Rs. 1,050—the taste and style of high-end dining at an effective price.

Speaking about the idea, Vishal Shah, Founder, hautechef.in, says, "Living the fast-paced Manhattan lifestyle, my wife and I would often crave for a home-cooked meal, which would be fresh, healthy and easy while recreating the look, taste and feel of a restaurant's dish. However, we regularly experienced frustration in trying to cook for just the two of us and would often be left with either extra ingredients or extra cooked food, both of which would go to waste. Many a time, we would open a box of mascarpone cheese or a bottle of sherry vinegar and didn't know what to do with the excess after using the 2tbsp that the recipe recommended. And that's how the thought of providing exactly-measured ingredients was conceived. With Haute Chef, you can turn cooking into a fun experience without having to worry about the boring legwork of recipe planning, grocery shopping and measuring ingredients. The value proposition offered by our meal kits has resonated well with every single customer and we are getting a lot of inquiries from people in areas that we are not currently serving, which I can assure is just a matter of time."

Currently, Haute Chef delivers to areas like Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Juhu, Vile Parle and Andheri. The delivery areas and the menu for the month are listed on www.hautechef.in.
