Dadar market's bylanes are divided into different markets — a vegetable market, a flower market and a fish market. The high footfalls in this market make it vulnerable to any untoward incident.

Being one of the most crowded markets in the city, it has always had security issues. In July 2011, a bomb placed by Indian Mujahideen operatives exploded over a bus stop near Kabutar Khana close to the market. Another bomb placed under the Dadar foot-over bridge near the flower market did not go off.

Anant Bhalekar, Chairman of Maharashtra Vyapari Peth, said, "Citizens are more aware of any wrong doing. If they see an unknown bag, they call up the police. We don't think there is any lack of security. The crowd comes to help first when any incident happens."

Ashok Dalvi, who sells clothes in the market has a different opinion. "There aren't many security cameras around. There is one police chowki below the flyover but overall there is a lack of security."

Earlier, the sellers and buyers gathered at the Plaza Market in Dadar but as the market started closing down, hawkers started putting up stalls inside the bylanes. Bhalekar added, "The flower market started from Vijay Nagar but due to traffic it slowly started extending and now an entire lane outside the station is named 'phool market'."
