IPS officer RK Sahay, who had set himself on fire on Sept 14, passed away at Bombay hospital at 8.35 am today. The 52 year old additional director general of police have remained critical with 55 % burn injuries.
According to the doctors at Bombay Hospital, he had dipping blood pressure levels and his kidney stopped functioning yesterday. "He suffered a cardiac arrest around 7.15 am today after which his condition started deteriorating and he passed away at 8.35 am. His body will be sent to JJ hospital for post-mortem," said dr sagar sakle, spokesperson, Bombay Hospital.
Additional Director General of Police (Police Housing) Sahay suffered a partial loss of kidney function and was battling for life due to "extremely critical health conditions since a few days," a police officer told PTI. "Sahay breathed his last this morning at the Bombay Hospital," he said.
The police could not record the statement of Sahay in connection with the case due to his bad health, and hence the motive behind the extreme step remains a mystery now. Sahay was in the news when he recently submitted an inquiry report detailing alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) during the tenure of its former chief, Deepak Kapoor, an IAS officer of 1991 batch.
