After the sessions court in Mumbai convicted Salman Khan in the 2002 hit-and-run case, dna spoke to the police officers who were in the thick of things, investigating the case.

Former police chief of Mumbai, MN Singh, said that as a police officer, he was 'neither happy nor sad' about the verdict. "We had a job to do, and I'm happy we did a good job. The sad part is that it took 13 years for the judgment to be delivered," he said.

On a personal note, he said he feels bad 'that he (Salman) has to go through all these after so many years of the incident'. "But an example has to be made out of such cases, as it is sad to see the educated class commit such crimes," added the officer.

Even Bipin Singh, who was the deputy commissioner of police (Zone 10) said that the force put a lot of effort into probing the case. "It gives us immense satisfaction that the court has finally appreciated our work. There was no pressure on the investigating team from anyone; the only pressure we faced was from the public to investigate the case quickly and ensure that justice is served," he added.

Kishen Shengal, the investigating officer of the case, too expressed his satisfaction, adding: "Within a month's time, the charge sheet was submitted to the court. I believe that when the sessions court accepted constable Ravindra Patil's statement recorded under IPC Section 164 before he died, we knew that the verdict would be in our favour."

Shengal also stated that they had to 'deal very cautiously' as there is always lot of difference in a 'normal' accident case and a case which has a celebrity involved.
