Fifteen-year-old Std X student of Boisar school cremated without proper investigation.
In a case which may raise questions about negligence on part of various agencies, including the police, a 15-year-old girl’s body was cremated without ferreting out the facts that led to her death.
She died after consuming poison a few days ago.
Manisha Chavan, a Std X student of Seva Ashram school in Boisar, was allegedly insulted by her class teacher, identified as Rachna Sankhe, for quitting her private tuition classes.
Manisha was said to have been traumatised after Sankhe pointed fingers at her character and this apparently pushed the minor girl to consume poison on November 17.
A resident of Ganeshnagar in Boisar, Manisha was rushed to Nair Hospital for treatment.
However, she died there on November 19.
Manisha’s body was handed over to her family members and it was cremated without adequate police investigation.
Manisha’s father Sitaram Chavan told dna, “The teacher insulted my daughter. She was very depressed and she consumed insecticide. We rushed her to a local hospital first. The hospital authority had informed the police, but no action was taken.”
No note of the incident was made at Boisar police station and nor did the police try to collect reports when the body of the girl was handed over to the family.
“Basically, a case from Nair hospital had been registered through number zero at Agripada police station. However, we were not informed about the case and the body of the girl was handed over to the family after the post-mortem. They cremated the body. We have not yet received the medical reports and no case has been registered with us,” said Mahadev Achrekar, assistant police inspector, Boisar police station.
The family members of the victim are traumatised and have locked themselves up in their residence, grieving their daughter’s death.
