A police inspector posted with Mumbai crime branch has written to director general of police (DGP) Pravin Dixit seeking transfer to naxal-hit areas in the state.

The 45-year-old inspector in his letter stated that he has shown his working skills while working in the crime branch, but he hasn't got satisfaction he wanted, through his work. The officer, who is also known for his well built body, also stated that he would want to serve in naxal areas, where normally policemen do not choose to work.

In the letter, written on February 11, police inspector Sanjay Nikam stated that, he had got selected in the service in year 2000 as a police sub-inspector. In 2009 he was promoted to the rank of an assistant inspector and in 2015 he became inspector. He has worked with Wadala police station, RAK Marg police station and is currently posted with the city crime branch.

"I am 45-year-old and my physique is extremely in order. I regularly exercise and due to that I am extremely fit. However, as per my physique, I have not yet received any challenging task during my service in the police force.

While working in the crime branch I have shown my working skills, but still I feel that I have not yet done the work that would give me satisfaction and due to that I constantly feel guilty," Nikam stated in the letter.

"Since naxals have created a lot of nuisance in Gadchiroli and Aheri not many officers dare to work there. Hence, I have a strong feeling to serve in naxal-affected areas. I hereby request you to please transfer me to Gadchiroli or Aheri," the letter concludes.

"If such a request has come to us, we will take a decision on it at the time of general transfers. Normally, if a person makes a choice for a posting we see the motive and intention behind the request. And if the motive is good we will certainly appreciate it," additional director general of police (establishment) VD Mishra told dna.
