It’s that time of the year again when streets, shops, homes and offices are decked up and set to welcome the vignaharta.
So, women of The Inner Wheel Club, Airoli, took this opportunity to distribute eco-friendly bags to collect the nirmalya (flowers and offerings for the Lord). They distributed 1,500 bags to the public in and around Airoli and Dombivli to spread awareness about pollution caused by plastic bags used to dispose off the nirmalya.
They advocated the use of eco-friendly bags and distributed them for free. They went about in groups around various stalls where Ganpati idols were sold.
President of the Inner Wheel club, Vinaya Hebbar, who spearheaded this project, said “Every citizen must own the responsibility of saving the environment, and this is our contribution to save the environment.”
She also thanked the club’s secretary Rashmi Gupte who conceived the idea and Deepa Suresh who took leadership in motivating school children to participate in this project and to distribute the bags door-to-door with the message.
The project was a good initiative to reduce the pollution and create awareness just like dna eco-Ganesha.
