A Mumbai-Delhi IndiGo flight had to return barely 15 minutes after taking off due to a technical snag on Saturday. Sources said the problem was later identified as some issue in the fuel tank. According to airport officials, the aircraft with 173 passengers on board, scheduled for a 9.30am departure, took off at 9.45am. About 15 minutes after take-off, the pilot announced that the flight will return to Mumbai as the aircraft had developed a technical snag.

A passenger, Naheed Contractor, said the flight came back to the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport as some part of the fuel tank was left open. The flight took off again after the issue was rectified around two hours later, but had to face further delays due to morning congestion at the airport. If the inconvenience due to the flight's return to the airport was not enough, some passengers claimed that during check-in they faced problems because of unavailability of cabin bag tags. "I had to walk all the way back to the main check-in counters for the tags. I wasn't the first person to go through this after reaching security, as no tags were available at the self check-in kiosks. At Terminal 1B, gates A1-A8 had no tags of IndiGo," said Contractor.

An IndiGo spokesperson said, "IndiGo flight 6E178 en route to Delhi from Mumbai returned to bay shortly after take-off following a technical snag. The flight carrying 173 passengers and five crew members, which took off at 9.30am, returned at 10.19am. The technical snag was rectified at 11.15am and the aircraft finally took off at 11.37am after refuelling and invoking of MEL. Seven passengers with five checked-in bags wished to get offloaded for which anti-sabotage was carried out from 11.15am to 11.24am. The offloaded passengers were escorted to arrivals section along with their bags by IndiGo staff and were later taken to the check-in counters. Of the seven passengers, three were moved to the next flight free of cost and the rest were given a full refund."
