The Indian Armed Forces and National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be observing International Day of Yoga 2015 on Sunday by organising a yoga camp and workouts at various locations in Mumbai and stations under the headquarters based in the city.

"In view of the likely inclement weather, the venues have been selected to house most of the participants in covered sheds, gymnasiums, hangars and parking," said Commander Rahul Sinha, defence spokesperson, Mumbai.

Over the years the Indian armed forces has assimilated yoga into their physical fitness regimen, especially for units deployed in extreme high altitude areas, and many asanas form a part of the outdoor exercises conducted on a daily basis.

NCC Directorate Maharashtra is likely to field nearly 76,000 of its cadets in performing yoga, as per a common protocol issued by the Ministry of AYUSH, at 244 venues spread over the entire state between 7am and 7:35am on Sunday. Nationwide, NCC strives to endorse this achievement in the Limca Book of Records for 'Largest Yoga Performance simultaneously by a uniformed youth organisation'.

Services of yoga institutes from across the state have been utilised to train the cadets for the event over the past 10 weeks. In Mumbai itself, their nearly 12,000 cadets are scheduled to participate at 10 venues. Major General Subodh Kumar, who is additional director general, NCC, Maharashtra, along with its lead team, will be participating at the army station workshop in the city.

For forces under the Western Naval Command, yoga workshop and workout is being conducted by certified Patanjali Yog Samiti instructors at six places in South Mumbai, which include Naval Dockyard and Indian Naval Ship Viraat.

"A total of over 10,000 personnel are expected to take part in yoga camps being organised at various places under the Western Naval Command, which includes Karwar, Goa, units based in Gujarat and Karanja," added the spokesperson.
