In two separate incidents, two youths die because of helmetless riding

Bus driver Tanaji Kumbhar has been arrested and booked under charges of causing death due to negligence and rash driving among other Indian Penal Code sections.

During the wee hours of Wednesday in Saki Naka, Andheri, a BEST bus met with an accident with a scooter. While the helmetless rider died due to the impact on his head, the pillion rider was injured. In another incident in Pant Nagar, a drunk two-wheeler succumbed after he rammed his vehicle into a divider. Statistics provided by the police revealed that while in 2015, 208 two-wheelers died in accidents, 125 have died till August this year.

Avinash Dharmadhikari, Senior Police Inspector of Sakinaka police station, said, "The victims were helmet-less, however, Pujari was thrown off the scooter and suffered severe head injury, while his friend too suffered injuries. They were rushed to Rajawadi hospital where Pujari was declared dead on admission, while his friend is still recuperating in the hospital."

In another incident in the wee hours of Wednesday at the Eastern Express Highway near Ramabai Nagar, biker Pramod Mane (25), who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his bike and rammed it into the divider. While Mane died in the mishap, his friend Anoop Pawar, who was riding pillion is under medical treatment, police said.
