In one day, 35 people sensitise 15K Mumbaikars on autism

The autism helpline number was introduced by CRC in 2016, and has been receiving a huge response till date

Team Child Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) along with Child React Foundation (CRF) in association with Rotract Club of Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Badlapur, are spreading awareness on autism among Mumbaikars. They travelled to16 railway stations in Navi Mumbai and Thane on Saturday and distributed 5,000 stickers explaining what autism is. The stickers have an autism helpline number for people seeking an intervention programme for autistic children.

A total of 35 people, including 27 doctors from CRC and other members of CRF have formed teams for this campaign. There are six persons in each team. Each team boarded different compartments of trains travelling from Panvel to Thane and Thane to Navi Mumbai on Saturday. The campaign started at 9 am and went on till 4 pm.

The autism helpline number was introduced by CRC in 2016, and has been receiving a huge response till date.

Sushant Shinde, General Manager, CRC, said, "Every year we find out new ways to spread awareness on the helpline number. We help people with autistic children with information on the nearest centre or home programmes, etc."

To mark autism awareness week, this initiative will be documented and the video will be shared across social media platforms and messaging apps such as Facebook and Whatsapp by the 2,500 members of the rotaract club.

Dr Sumit Shinde, occupational therapist and managing director of Child Learning Centre, said, "We received tremendous response on Saturday. We were able to reach out to 15,000 people within a day. Many had approached us directly at railway stations to learn more about autism."
