The MRA Marg police arrested two people for robbing a fruit seller and his friends in the CST area early on Sunday.

The duo was trying to speed away on a bike when their luck ran out and they hit a taxi, making it easier for the police to catch them.

The arrested duo has been identified as Mohammad Javed Qureshi, 30, a Duncan Road resident, and Pappu Abdul Aziz Qureshi, 26, a resident of Nagpada.

According to the police, the complainant, Mubarak Rashid Khan, 30, a juice seller from Crawford Market, had gone to deliver juice to a customer in the CST area during the early hours of Sunday. When he reached the foot overbridge at DN Road, two people on a bike stopped and accosted him and two of his friends, Nandu Pawar and Dinmohammad Khan.

The duo allegedly threatened the three men and forcibly snatched Rs6,000 and mobile phones from them and sped away on their bike. A patrolling police team heard the three men screaming for help, and started chasing the bikers.

However, the police didn't have to try to hard, as the bikers collided with a taxi while trying to get away.

“In order to get away from the police, the rider accelerated and collided with a taxi. The duo sustained injuries and were taken to St George’s Hospital, and were later arrested,” said a police officer from MRA Marg police station.
