A daring car theft early on December 27 morning in Mulund (East) was caught live on camera. The SUV was parked on Meethaghar Road in Mulund, and the robbers took only a few minutes to carry out the job.

The robbers had apparently come to the spot in a sedan, as in the CCTV footage of cameras placed at various places through which the stolen SUV passed, this sedan can be seen tailing it.

On December 27 around 4:30am, a silver SUV, MH 46-P-5374 was stolen from outside Prakash Salvi House on Meethaghar Road. The robbery was captured entirely in a CCTV camera fixed in the opposite lane. The footage also shows a silver sedan taking rounds of the lane a number of times before parking outside the lane seconds before the SUV is driven out by the thieves. As soon as the SUV leaves, a man can be seen getting into the parked sedan and following the stolen SUV.

The complainant in the case, Nilesh Varenkar (37), told Navghar police that on December 27, when leaving for office he went to the place where he had parked his car. However, he didn't find the car. When he inquired around, no one had a clue. "I realised my car had been stolen and immediately approached Navghar police and registered a complaint."

Interestingly, Narvekar himself went around the area and collected the CCTV grabs from various cameras installed near shops in the area.

"I was shocked when I saw the footage; I could see a sedan taking rounds in my lane, and later my car was seen coming out of the lane, and a man getting into the sedan and following my car." He added: "I even got CCTV grabs from other roads through which I believed my car could have passed, and to my surprise the sedan could be seen tailing my car. This clearly shows thieves had come in the sedan. I have shared the footage with the police."

When contacted, R More, senior police Inspector, Navghar police station, said: "We are going through the footage. We do suspect the man in the sedan, but its number plate is not clear. We are checking on history-sheeters and our informers to know if any such gang is operating in the area."
